Fun time at Chicago

The Saturday matinee started a little cold on the first number or two, but then the cast and the audience got warmed up. Show was a lot of fun. First time I've seen the stage play (movie was awesome). Everyone did an exceptional job. My only criticism is with the director's handling of the role of Mama Thornton: the performance was too straitlaced, not vampy/campy/playful enough, particularly on the "When you're good to mama" number. The song is fun and suggestive. While the singing was great, the delivery looked like a parent addressing a PTA group rather than trying to convince someone to be good to Mama so she'd be good to you.
