The Fray Mississauga Concert reviews
Fantastic Voice, Disappointing Song Selection
The Fray, with a voice of impressive range and power, opened the show with a 1935 classic 'I'm in the Mood for Love', accompanied by their band, two backup singers, and the Pittsburgh Symphony. A great rendition of the 1952 classic 'When I Fall in Love' followed. The evening's performance primarily consisted of covers, all performed very well, except for the Elvis Presley hit 'Burning Love', which, in my opinion, was a bit choppy and did not fit their singing style. The best performance of the night was Foreigner's 'I Want to Know What Love is', a cover that showcased The Fray's voice alongside their band and the Pittsburgh Symphony beautifully. I was surprised that they did not perform more of their own music, only two or three songs by my count, which was disappointing for the fans in the audience expecting to hear the artist's hits. Throughout the 1 hour and 20-minute performance, The Fray made several comments about their music journey, which, after a while, felt repetitive and detracted from the overall experience. Their 'I am on my own' attitude seemed to influence the set list, focusing on what they wanted to perform rather than what the fans came to hear.
